I think you'll like this week's newsletter.
The 7 habits that follow will make you a creative problem solver. These actions and thought patterns can be used to generate dozens of good creative ideas at a time. But they will only make you an effective problem solver if you use them habitually, so how do you make a habit of these? Just repeat the following daily for few weeks.
1. Relax And Take A Deep Breath
Breathe deeply through your nose for a few minutes and let the tension release from your neck and shoulders. There is some evidence that tensed-up shoulders and neck can reduce blood flow to the brain. There is a lot of evidence that creativity increases when we are relaxed.
2. Examine Your Assumptions
Anytime you approach a problem, take a look at the assumptions you and others are making. Challenge them, to see what you might learn. For example, if you are trying to design a new pet store, you might challenge the idea people have to come to see the animals. Of course they have to come to see them, you assume, but upon challenging the idea, it occurs to you that you might bring the pets into people's homes, so they can see how they'll do there. This might even be a...

Name an English word with five consecutive vowels.
(answer below)
What English word has the letter "i" in it six times? The answer I had was "indivisibility". As usual, someone found another answer:
The word is "Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis."
This also has the letter "i" in it six times, although there is some debate as to whether this should count. The word means "a lung disease caused by the inhalation of very fine silica dust usually found in volcanos", but there is another word for this condition (pneumoconiosis). This one was simply invented in 1935 to be the longest English word, but it does show up in some dictionaries now. (Thanks Quintin)
Dr. Sonia Cavigelli, at Penn State, tested 80 rats with tumors, and found that those which were more curious lived 25% longer. Curiosity was measured by the rats willingness to explore their environment. Future research may show a similar correlation in people. So get curious about something today.
To create a particular state of mind in a person, you talk about that state, and invite the person to participate in the discussion. For example, if you want a friend to be excited, talk about how excited you get by whatever, and ask him what gets him excited. He will usually get excited as he explains.
You can also ask him to recall something from a time you know (or can assume) he was in the state you want him to be in. Of course, this could be whatever state you think will be useful. For example, suppose you want him to be angry. You remind him of some injustice, and have him recount it, and he will likely become angry all over again.

Ready to write? What exactly do you do when you want to write poetry? Hopefully your answer is "I start writing," because even writing a bad poem is better than waiting for the "right words." You can always throw the poem away, after all, but the process has begun. You'll start to find the words sooner than if you just waited. Below are some more ways to get started. Poetry is poetry, even if the means to get there seem mechanical.
Singing A Poem
Here's a little experiment. Try it alone in the basement if you must. First describe something, and then describe it again, this time singing instead of talking. You will notice that the words you use have changed. Sentences will generally be more...
