Subliminal Persuasion Using Inflection

Subliminal persuasion is simply influencing people at a level below their conscious recognition. Many people don't consciously realize they are being influenced by a smile, making even that a subliminal technique. A more subtle method is to consciously use inflection in your speech.

It is easy to assume that a sentence like "I can't promise you that price." has only one meaning. In reality, though, inflection provides much of the actual meaning. Look at the each of the sentences below, each with a different word emphasized, and followed by the implied meaning.

I can't promise you that price. (But maybe someone can.)

I CAN'T promise you that price. (There's no way.)

I can't PROMISE you that price. (But maybe you'll get it.)

I can't promise YOU that price. (But I can promise someone else.)

I can't promise you THAT price. (But maybe a good price.)

I can't promise you that PRICE. (But I can promise something.)

The meaning of our statements is determined by which words we emphasize, and it is a subtle process. If you can't promise him that price, you can tell him "I can't promise you that PRICE," and he may still feel good about the situation, especially if you immediately follow with what you can promise him. You probably know what you want to say. Understanding and using the subtle and often subliminal power of inflection means the other person will hear what you want them to.

Best Exercise For Brain Function?

The research has mainly focused on duration more than on the specific types of exercise. However, aerobic exercise is the most common type tested in studies. Running, bicycling, swimming, dancing and other aerobic exercises probably all have a similar beneficial effect on brain function.

Some of the research shows that as little as ten minutes of exercise is enough to have effects on the brain. It's not clear how much more benefit there may be with longer exercise sessions. Most scientists probably expected to find that better brain function resulted from long-term exercise programs, but recent studies show an immediate effect as well. In other words, get up and run around right now, and you can be smarter ten minutes from now.

My experience tells me that walking is one of the best ways to boost brain power. The aerobic benefits are being explained by recent studies, but I think there is something more. It could be the rhythmic and relaxing nature of it. Whatever the reason, myself and many others find that our clearest and most creative thinking happens when walking.

We already knew that exercise gives you better sleep, a healthier immune system, weight control, and a lower risk of heart disease, cancer and diabetes. We can now add better brain function to the list. Why not get out and take a walk today?

Power Nap

What is a "power nap?" It is what used to be called a catnap. The term power nap was apparently coined by Cornell University social psychologist James Maas. Basically it is a short nap that is designed to refresh you. What does the research say?

According to Dr. Sara Mednick, at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, napping benefits cell repair, heart function, and hormonal maintenance. A power nap maximizes these benefits, by getting the rejuvenative effects in as short a time as possible. The brain benefits as well. A study done by NASA found that although naps don't aid alertness, they do improve memory functions.

Brain Chemicals and Concentration

The neurotransmitter dopamine helps you to concentrate. If you raise the levels of dopamine - especially if they are low - you'll concentrate better. This is what caffeine and drugs like ritalin do. To do the same without drugs, you should get good quality sleep and exercise a lot. It also helps to eat foods that slowly release sugars into your system. These include beans, whole grains, apples, and salads.

A List Of Inventions

The following is my personal list of inventions I am waiting to see produced. Invent these and you'll have at least one customer.

1. An air conditioned jacket. One hot day I experimented and found that the fan didn't cool me nearly as well when I was shirt-less as when I wore a jacket or shirt and let the fan blow into it. This sent the cooling breeze all around my torso and arms (the air escapes out the bottom, collar and sleeves). A jacket with a battery-operated fan would do the same thing. Add a wet t-shirt underneath and the circulating air would make it downright chilly in there.

2. A currency sanitizer. Bacteria, viruses and more are spread by the handling of bills. A simple machine that used heat or a disinfecting agent, could make those bills safe to handle.

3. New soles for hiker's feet. Backpackers get blisters...
