Scientists at UCLA found that naming emotional states calmed them down. This is a common technique in mindfulness meditation. The meditator deals with random disturbances by saying, "fear," "anger" "annoyance," or otherwise putting a label on interfering thoughts, emotions and feelings, and then returns attention to breathing.
In the study, fMRI brain scans were done on 30 people, who were asked to look at photos of people's faces, showing various emotional states. Some photos had words below them describing the possible emotional states of the person, such as "angry," "depressed" or "excited." They also had two possible names, male and female.
Participants were asked to choose...

- Wealth, if defined as having more assets, is not correlated very strongly with intelligence, but income is? (In other words, smart people make more but don't do any better at managing it.)
- Warm air can hold more moisture than cold air? This is why there is dew or frost - when the air gets too cold, it can't hold all the moisture, and so it precipitates out.

Scientists themselves will argue forever about a definition of science, but still agree that it is the most useful or productive method of understanding the world. Its essential characteristics are objective observation, the deriving of principles and "laws", and predictions based on these. (At the point where it produces things, it is also technology.)
It can be easily differentiated from religion by the fact that...

Riddle Solution: Rousseauian appears in some dictionaries ("eauia"), meaning 'pertaining to Rousseau or his views on religion, politics, etc.' Pharmacopoeia comes close, with four vowels.
